Saying Goodbye

I always dread this time of the Stampin' Up! year--time to say goodbye to retiring products.  And this year is no exception.  With a color revamp and a new catalog about to debut, it's exciting, but I have to give up some of my favorite products.

So today's card is one of those featuring a few retiring products:

This was one of the cards we made at my Card Club in April.  And it uses one of my favorite designer series papers - Painted with Love.

What?  You can't see the designer paper?  Well look at those flowers.

Using the soon-to-be-retired Flower Shop stamp set, we stamped one of the pansies directly on the DSP, using Tuxedo Black ink.  The Pansy Punch, also retiring, made cutting these flowers out easy-peasy!  All we had to do was color a Pearl Basic Jewel with a Rich Razzleberry Stampin' Blend, and the flowers were card-ready.

The card is a piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock, cut 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and folded in half.  We added a layer of Rich Razzleberry (4" x 5-1/4") with an oval (Layering Ovals Framelits dies) and embossed with the Layered Leaves embossing folder, popped up on Dimensionals.

After gluing the pansies in place, we added some Old Olive leaves, punched with the Leaf Punch.  And we finished our card with more Stampin' Blends-colored pearl embellishments.

Stamp directly on your Designer Series Paper--it's a great way to use up scraps, and makes such lovely flowers!

Inspiration Sunday - A Challenge Card

Each Sunday I like to share cards made from something that inspired me.  I call it Inspiration Sunday.    A photo, a collage, a color combination - something that gets my creative juices flowing.  I had a card prepared to show you today, but it got hijacked when my Stampin' Up! buddy, Gail, sent this challenge:

"Challenge card from Sheraton hotel room...Peekaboo Peach and Fresh Fig or Berry burst?  Anyone? Go!"  And she included this picture:

I was intrigued...I love a good challenge!  And this pretty ball against the black background (oh, and note those triangle shapes in the background) got me thinking.

But before I even made it to my craft room, Bonnie sent off this pic:

LOVE!  And she nailed the background!

So what to do?  I had already been working on another card, but put it away and began pulling out colors and supplies.  And came up with this:

Completely different take, but can you see where the idea originated?  Yes, that ball was my inspiration, and I made a background for my main image using the colors and varied-sized stripes.

I started with a piece of Very Vanilla and covered it with a piece of Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets (you NEED this product!).  Then I used my Stampin' Trimmer to slice off strips of Peekaboo Peach, Fresh Fig and Basic Black, varying the widths.

Once I had placed all my strips on the base, I trimmed it to size and mounted it on a Basic Black frame.  This was adhered to my Thick Very Vanilla card.

Beautiful You was my choice for the stamping - a set I haven't used much lately, but I thought would be a good image for this sophisticated background.  I stamped the figure on Very Vanilla using Tuxedo Black, and colored her with Rich Razzleberry Stampin' Blends, both light and dark.  Her skin tone is Ivory.  I finished the panel by lightly sponging Peekaboo Peach in a "halo" effect around the figure.

This small panel, along with the sentiment are popped on Dimensionals for a little height.

So where do you get your inspiration?  Just look around and see what catches your eye.  Then get into your craft space and create!

A Mother-In-Law Card

Today I'm going to show you a somewhat different card, one that I once was told is called a "mother-in-law card".  And I had to laugh--it's called that because there is very little room to write a note.

😂

When I was in Las Vegas for On Stage (convention), I receive a swap card with this layout.  Although the card was very different, it reminded me of - the "mother-in-law" card.  And here is why it's called that:

You only get a half-sized panel on which to stamp your sentiment and write a note.

But let's take a look at this pretty card:

1.  The base is only a flat 5-1/2" x 4-1/4".  This is Tranquil Tide
2.  The embossed layer is 5-1/4" x 4", and I used the Layered Leaves embossing folder
3.  The Whisper White note card is only 3" x 8-1/2", scored and folded at 5-1/2".

I layered the top of the note card with Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper:

4.  The large scallop is cut with the Layering Circles Framelits dies and Whisper White cardstock
5.  The Tranquil Tide circle is also cut with the Layering Circles
6.  The daisy from Daisy Delight was stamped twice using Tranquil Tide ink, then punched with the Daisy Punch and layered together
7.  The finishing touch is the Clear Faceted Gem in the center of the daisy

Now at my Card Club we used the same design, but made it a Mother's Day card:

So pretty!

This one uses soon-to-be retired Wisteria Wonder cardstock and more of the Delightful Daisy DSP.  And we embossed the background with the Basket Weave embossing folder, but the basic card is the same as the Tranquil Tide one above.

Try your hand at the "mother-in-law" card--there may not be much room to write a message, but I'm sure your mother-in-law will love it anyway!
